Crescent Academy is currently hiring for a Math Teacher for grades 7th - 12th.

The Secondary Math Specialist is responsible for improving mathematics achievement for students in grades 7–12 through instructional leadership, direct student support, intervention services, teacher coaching, curriculum development, and data analysis. The Math Specialist will work collaboratively with teachers and administrators to ensure that all students are prepared for success in advanced mathematics courses, state assessments, college readiness, career pathways, and post-secondary opportunities.

The Math Specialist will provide support in mathematics courses ranging from Pre-Algebra and Algebra I through Geometry, Algebra II, Statistics, and higher-level mathematics offerings. The position will focus on increasing student proficiency, closing achievement gaps, and strengthening instructional practices across the mathematics department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

  • Serve as the instructional leader for mathematics in grades 7–12.

  • Support the implementation of research-based mathematics instructional practices.

  • Promote rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that develops conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving skills.

  • Assist in developing and monitoring mathematics curriculum maps, pacing guides, and instructional frameworks.

  • Support vertical alignment of mathematics instruction from middle school through high school.

Student Achievement and Intervention

  • Provide targeted intervention services for students performing below grade level.

  • Deliver small-group and individualized mathematics instruction as needed.

  • Support students in preparing for state assessments, PSAT, SAT, ACT, Work Keys, and other college and career readiness assessments.

  • Develop intervention plans and monitor student growth through ongoing progress monitoring.

  • Coordinate credit recovery and academic support programs for struggling students.

Teacher Coaching and Professional Development

  • Collaborate with mathematics teachers to strengthen instructional practices.

  • Model effective mathematics lessons and instructional strategies.

  • Conduct instructional coaching cycles and provide feedback to teachers.

  • Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on mathematics achievement.

  • Provide professional development on instructional best practices, data analysis, intervention strategies, and educational technology.

Data Analysis and Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze local, state, and national assessment data to identify trends and areas for growth.

  • Assist teachers in using assessment data to drive instructional decisions.

  • Develop action plans to improve mathematics proficiency and growth.

  • Monitor department goals and student achievement outcomes.

  • Prepare reports and presentations regarding mathematics performance and progress.

Curriculum Development

  • Assist in the selection and implementation of mathematics instructional materials and resources.

  • Ensure curriculum alignment with Michigan Academic Standards and state assessment expectations.

  • Support integration of STEM, project-based learning, and real-world applications into mathematics instruction.

  • Collaborate with Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff to align mathematics instruction with career pathways.

MTSS and Student Support Services

  • Serve as a member of the MTSS team.

  • Coordinate Tier II and Tier III mathematics interventions.

  • Collaborate with special education staff, interventionists, and counselors to support student success.

  • Participate in Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when appropriate.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Communicate with families regarding student progress and intervention plans.

  • Provide resources and strategies to support mathematics learning at home.

  • Participate in family engagement activities and academic events.

  • Assist with college and career readiness initiatives related to mathematics achievement.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Attend faculty meetings, PLC meetings, and professional development sessions.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student interventions and achievement.

  • Stay current on trends, research, and best practices in mathematics education.

  • Support the mission, vision, and goals of Crescent Academy.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Mathematics endorsement preferred.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education, or a related field required.

  • Master's Degree preferred.

  • Minimum of three years of successful secondary mathematics teaching experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and higher-level mathematics courses.

  • Experience analyzing student achievement data and implementing intervention programs.

  • Strong knowledge of Michigan Academic Standards and state assessment requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong content knowledge in secondary mathematics.

  • Ability to coach and support teachers effectively.

  • Expertise in data-driven instructional practices.

  • Knowledge of MTSS, differentiated instruction, and intervention strategies.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.

  • Proficiency in educational technology and student data systems.

Work Schedule

School-year position with additional responsibilities during summer planning, curriculum development, professional learning, and assessment periods as assigned.
